GUGCS

The Growing Up Green Charter School (GUGCS) empowers children to be conscious, contributing members of their community through a rigorous curriculum and an engaging green culture. Graduates of GUGCS will be prepared to attend high-performing schools where their interdisciplinary academic foundation, knowledge of sustainability, and strong sense of self sets them apart as leaders of the future.

Growing Up Green Charter School (GUGCS) opened in September 2009. It is located in Long Island City, Queens. Its mission is to empower children to be conscious, contributing members of their community through a rigorous curriculum and engaging in green culture. Graduates of GUGCS will be prepared to attend high-performing schools where their interdisciplinary academic foundation, knowledge of sustainability, and strong sense of self sets them apart as leaders of the future.

GUGCS teaches students the school culture through the acronym GREENGiving Back (Giving back to others and the community), Respect (Respect adults, friends and the community), Embrace (Embrace differences of those around you), Empower (Empower yourself to make good choices), and Nurture (Nurture those around you with kindness). Through assemblies, class meetings, and various lessons students are taught the expectations of the GREEN culture.
